Nauru is the world’s smallest republic and the third-smallest country by area, a raised coral island in the central Pacific about 300 kilometers south of the equator. Yaren is the de facto capital district, housing the parliament, the airport, and most of the island’s infrastructure, though Nauru technically has no official capital.
