Creston, a small agricultural town in British Columbia’s Kootenay region, is one of the few places in Canada that permanently uses Mountain Standard Time, UTC-7, without observing daylight saving. The history is local and stubborn. Creston’s farmers and residents voted decades ago to opt out of clock changes, finding that shifting time twice a year disrupted livestock, irrigation schedules, and the rhythms of a farming town.
