Moose Jaw is a city in southern Saskatchewan, sitting on the Trans-Canada Highway about 75 kilometers west of Regina. It runs on Central Standard Time, UTC-6, year-round. Saskatchewan is the only Canadian province that doesn’t observe daylight saving time.
The reasons are agricultural and practical. Saskatchewan’s farming economy, and particularly its wheat production, was considered to benefit from consistent early-morning schedules that DST would disrupt. The province tried DST briefly in the mid-twentieth century, found resistance, and abandoned it. The fixed UTC-6 has been in place since 1966.

The practical effect: in summer, when neighboring Manitoba and Alberta spring forward, Saskatchewan stays fixed. Saskatchewan is then aligned with Mountain Daylight Time (UTC-6) for half the year, making it easy to forget it didn’t change. The city’s name comes from an Indigenous Cree word, and the city sits on the TransCanada rail corridor that has always been central to prairie freight movement.
