Walvis Bay sits in a natural harbor on Namibia’s Atlantic coast, sheltered by the Pelican Point spit, where the cold Benguela Current wells up from the South Atlantic. The current creates a paradox: the coast is fog-bound and cool while the Namib Desert begins literally at the edge of town, one of the world’s hottest deserts meeting one of its coldest ocean currents.
